My last blog post on packing for Chicago got me thinking about Spring layering. Depending on where you live, Spring can be a little confusing, fashion-wise. The days in California start a little gloomy, warm up mid-day and cool back down for pretty chilly evenings. Which means if you work long days or are out running all over the damn place like I am, you’ll need two dress in layers. Though we are lucky as Californians that our temperature changes are pretty minimal, it’s still important to be comfortable while you get your hustle on!
As previously stated, we recently spent a few days in Chicago, so I pulled out one of my favorite layering pieces. This sleeveless sweatshirt works as a wonderful layer under a jacket, over a tee our even popped on over a dress to dress it down. Since I had so many ideas for this sweatshirt, I decided to feature it on my #3looks1piece feature. Let me know what ideas you come up with!
Most of these pieces are things I have worn a handful of times or styled with so it’s their turn to go to a new home. I’ll be adding links to where the items can be found, either on my Depop or Etsy account or the brand’s website it it is a new item.
you can grab this sweatshirt ( but not the doggo!) HERE
This look is my favorite of the 3. Lately these 90’s floral maxi skirts are just speaking to me. I love the way the sweatshirt toned down the look and added a casual vibe to an otherwise teacher-chic look. Since the sweatshirt is sleeveless, it is easy and comfortable to layer underneath this lightweight jacket. The gold sweater is a very light nylon material, perfect for a windy but not actually cold Spring day. I wore this on a day I had a hair and makeup client in the morning, ran a few errands and had a few meetings with brands I work with and met with another makeup client. Nothin too dressy so I didn’t need to be full glam, but I still dressed up the look and added a bit of polish with my vintage Gucci pumps and contrasted that preppiness with big ass gold hoops. This look suits my personal style absolutely- an eclectic mix of styles and high-low vintage appeal.
How do you like the eyelash glue on my hand that I didn’t notice? Hahaha! Being a makeup artist is so glamorous.
Again, with the eyelash glue…
jacket: American Apparel- I found mine on Depop // sweatshirt: vintage ADIDAS- you can buy mine HERE // skirt: vintage- you can buy mine HERE // earrings: random shop downtown Long Beach- grab em on Depop HERE
shoes: vintage GUCCI that I found in Thailand and will never sell. So don’t ask. 😉
The 2nd look is pretty basic, simple and easy for a day running around a city, sightseeing or just a good ‘ol weekend get-up. This was an outfit I wore exploring Chicago on our recent trip so I needed to be warm, comfortable and hassle-free. I love this sweatshirt layered over a simple tee and black skinny jeans. I popped a windbreaker with a hood over it and was able to take the sweatshirt off when I got a little warm after too much coffee. The gold mules and hoops added some interest and I topped it with my new fave straw hat from Wyeth– mostly because bangs + wind = pure aggravation.
hat: Wyeth // striped tee: 2nd hand GAP I found at Goodwill- I find these types of tees all the time! // pants: Paige Denim Skyline Ankle Peg // mules: Clover in bronze by Matisse Footwear // backpack: Cleobella // jacket: vintage reversible hooded badass jacket- I found this one at Goodwill
When I am blogging and updating my portfolio, I need to be comfortable. But I find when I am toooooo comfortable, like sweatpants comfortable, I find myself becoming un-inspired and honestly a touch depressed. A girl needs to throw on some clothes, pop on gaudy jewelry and get to work. Hoop earrings and coffee get me through my days.
jewelry: necklaces: smaller chain: Elizabeth Stone Jewelry , larger chain: H&M ( I don’t promote shopping fast fashion- this is old ) // earrings: super cheap downtown Long Beach find
Stoked to hear what you’d pair this cozy top with!
