Everything about Palm Springs makes me think vintage road trip. From the many kitchy stops along the way, the cacti and succulents, the retro color schemes and architecture to the beautiful desert mornings, Palm Springs is one of my all-time favorite getaways. Whenever I need a good mind-clearing and a tan, I hop in the car, crank classic rock and head out to the desert, making pit-stops along the way at quirky liquor stores, thrift shops and funky little diners.
tee: I wish I could say it was vintage or thrifted, but this ultra- thin ringer tee from Free People feels and looks vintage and it quite possibly the softest shirt I have. I recently swooped it up at Birdie Boutique // pants: vintage Dittos coming soon to Goldstruck Goods Vintage // aviators: Modern Gyspy ( they have the raddest inexpensive sunnies!!) // visor- picked this one up for $2 at Daiso ! * warning- I left it in the car once I arrived in Palm Springs and was unpleasantly surprised to find it melted- it was 103 degrees! whoops! // photos: Holly Pendergast
Prior to hitting the road, I did a little shopping with Birdie Boutique, a well curated little shop I just discovered through Instagram. They carry a selection of super cute California lifestyle brands, such as Free People and also carry cool vintage furniture and goodies. I grabbed a couple of pieces that are mega comfy for road-trippin’, like the tees featured here.
I love how this simple heather grey high-neck tank contrasts with these fancy sequin denim cut-offs. The heather material makes it insanely comfortable ( and it’s priced just right! )
tank: Free People at Birdie Boutique / shorts: these are an older style from Blessed are the Meek that I just added to my Depop shop // bolo necklace: vintage- I picked it up at Make Collectives, a local Long Beach spot with an adorable assortment of new and vintage finds //shoes: TUK // rings: small stackable silver rings I’ve found on Etsy // photos: Holly Pendergast
The second we arrived at our cute, kitchy hotel, we jumped right in the pool. As much as I adore the desert heat, 103 is just too damn hot.
sunnies: Modern Gypsy
Well, that’s lovely.
I’ve been dressing very girlie and beachy lately and frankly, it just doesn’t feel like me. Even in Palm Springs. We went out for the evening and I needed to get back to my roots. I scored this vintage looking oversized Metallica tee from Modern Gypsy and tossed it on with some fishnets and this unique vintage leather skort. It was still hot as hell, but often time restaurants and bars in the desert are so overly air conditioned that you end up freezing. I find a denim jacket tossed over my shoulders is just enough. And my obsession with these TUK studded mary jane creepers continues…

This tee is the comfiest in the world. I love soft, worn-in tees for their versatility. I wore this baby out to dinner, to bed and the following morning on our way back home. For $17.50, this tee is a steal. Head on over to Modern Gypsy to check out their other vintage-inspired metal t-shirts. They’re badass. They also have the cutest inexpensive glasses and some of the trendiest jewelry from brands like Jay Nicole Jewelry and turbans from ImWithTheBand.
More from our trip headed your way later this week…
