Two things that make my heart explode- vintage and velvet. The two make a wonderful couple and I have compiled a lookbook with some of my favorite velvet pieces, styled with amazing vintage.
I’m always on the hunt for clothing that is unique and foxy, yet packable and comfortable since we tend to get outta town as frequently as possible. I’m not one of those gals you’ll see wandering through the airport in pajama pants and a sweatshirt. Those babes are probably SO comfortable, but my preference is to remain comfy without sacrificing style. The world is beautiful since it is filled with all sorts of unique humans, right? Ladies, if you are feelin those yoga pants and sweatshirt vibes, more power to ya! It just aint me, babe.
These stretch velvet dungarees from Velvet Cave solve my travel woes and fit like a glove. Velvet Cave has an insane collection of vintage, along with some really beautiful vintage-inspired pieces. I am turned WAY up by the aesthetic of this brand, from the hand-picked vintage finds to the ethically made limited-edition designs. If I ever move to the UK, Velvet Cave- I’m coming for you. I feel like I have a soul sister across the pond.
velvet dungarees: Velvet Cave // hat, top: Goldstruck Goods Vintage // shoes: you’ve heard the story before and it hasn’t changed…. Dolce Vita– these are old and I am completely obsessed with them. I have 2 pairs and I won’t be letting these babies go until they snap off or I break my ankle. perhaps you can find em on Depop, eBay or second-hand stores… good luck!// straw bag: vintage- it is in shabby condition, so I use it as a decorative item and am not selling it, but I find similar items all the time- let me know if you are ever on the lookout for anything specific! // rings: vintage check out Etsy for similar styles // tassel earrings: selling em on Depop // camera and photography skills by Holly Pendergast
I was recently craving a tan and some desert healing, so I packed my vintage suitcase with a few of my favorite new pieces and hit the road. Take a peek at my last blog post and into my suitcase to see what I packed:
velvet dungarees: Velvet Cave // scarf: Goldstruck Goods // bra: Honey Bunny Intimates // necklace + tee:Birdie Boutique //velvet high waist undies: Solstice Intimates // camera: Instax mini 8 // shoes: TUK
I stopped on my way to the desert to visit my talented friend Holly and her kitty. Holly and I met at a small boutique we both did work for and have stayed connected since. She shoots the most beautiful pictures and makes us normal humans / non-models feel comfortable and fabulous in front of the camera. My husband and I did a wedding session with her and I’ve never been happier with pics of the two of us. She captures something special. Overtime I see her I want her to shoot me so we played dress up and I wore these dungarees two different ways… can’t figure out which look I’m more into- which one do you like better?
crochet crop top: Goldstruck Goods
This look is super witchy and I love it. This vintage black maxi vest adds a touch of mystery and allows to mermaid sequin shorts to peek out just enough. I’m not the most comfortable in shorts, so I love a longer layer to cover my legs a bit. There are high slits in the front and back of the vest, which allow it to be layered over just about everything without looking too scary-trenchcoat-weirdo. The tall Western hat and bolo add a bit of wild wild west and my new favorite shoes finished the look.
vest, hat: Goldstruck Goods vintage // tank: Birdie Boutique // vintage bolo: Make Collectives // shorts: an older style from Blessed are the Meek now on my Depop – more about these on my last blog post // shoes: TUK// insanely rad photographer: Holly Pendergast
Creepers were the first shoes I remember falling madly in love with. There’s just something so perfectly shit-kicking and punk rock about these classic shoes and since I’ve always been below average on the height scale, the extra platform is a bonus. I used to bug the shit out of my mom to buy me these and I will never forget the 1st pair I talked her into buying me- a gunmetal silver pair in middle school. I wore the shit outta those and will wear the shit outta this pair as well. I am attracted to anything emerald and velvet and I love paisley so much I have it tattooed on my shoulder, so these had to be mine. Added bonus: they now come with a removable padded insole so they’re super comfy these days. 90s kids rejoice!
Palm Springs, how I love you so… Nothin says Palm Springs quite like an obnoxious mumu, right?! This vintage one has a beautiful shape, color and is comfy AF. I love the grandma who smokes indoors vibe of these vintage mumus and use Palm Springs getaways as an excuse to wear them every time.
I’ve got a thing for babes who make special, limited-edition pieces, with the environment’s health in mind. That being said, once I came across Kailee, founder of Im With The Band, I felt an instant soul-sister connection with her as well. I’ve been styling her headbands into photoshoots for a good while now and they have become such a go-to piece for those days your hair just isn’t going to play nice. I have bangs- my hair never wants to pay nice! I keep these babies in my car, wear them when I work out and style shoots with them all the time. I’d call the a staple of my wardrobe. The velvet ones are particularly rock-n-roll inspired and Kaylee herself embodies a badass rock-n-roll spirit. Love a true hard-working girl boss who makes products that make a lady’s day easier.
What are your favorite velvet finds and how do you wear em?
