Call it what you’d like- cruise, travel or resort, most of us are a little confused about what it is… What is resort season?
Hitting the stores mid-winter, giving us a good dose of what-the-fuck-it’s freezing, resort season can feel like such a tease. Like, what am I looking at a hawaiian print kaftan the week before Christmas for? Well, this is the year I finally understand. You’ve probably noticed by now that we live in a very different climate than I am used to. We just moved across the country from a place with 70 degree winters ( CA ) to a place with -7 degree winter days with an added windchill ( Chicago ). Soooooo when a friend gifted us a cruise ( long story ) we gladly accepted and booked for January. I am telling you this because this is who resort season is for.
Also known as a travel collection, this pre-season micro collection is marketed toward the leisure class. Typically living on the East Coast or Midwest, these luxe babes are looking to trade the snow and storms for sun and sangria. The collections are often constructed with lightweight, breezy fabrics one might pack on sunny vacations or trips to one of their sprawling vacation homes. Ok, maybe it’s not FOR US, but we certainly will play along this year. Not to mention, my husband and I are both fans of and are open to vacation home invites.
Customarily resort collections are smaller than a regular season collection, yet stays in stores longer. They are also geared toward international markets who need a different type of clothing due to tempratures that are different from Western Markets. Think Asia, Arab, Russian… Also for places where there is little to no winter at all- California, Florida, Vegas. Basically, picture luxury. Like, “fuck the snow, I’m headed for St Barts and I plan on looking fabulous” type of luxury.
2018 resort collections are filled with vintage inspired floral prints, peppy colors and a mega goddess feel. So many of these looks can be thrifted and vintage. I’m personally having tons of fun with it and can’t wait to launch Goldstruck Goods’ Vintage Resort Collection later in the month. I’m late, I know. What else is new? This will just be a jumpstart to get excited for Spring. Here are some of my favorite looks from the 2018 collections for some inspiration. How could you piece together thrift store finds to create these looks?
PS- I also noticed a lot of these looks paired with sweatshirts or winter coats to be more wearable in any climate!
Let’s get to cruising’!
